Recipe of the Week - Bechamel Sauce (Basic White Sauce)

This is a basic white sauce that can be used with pasta dishes such as macaroni cheese, lasagne or even in a potato and vegetable bake.

25g fat ( you can use margarine, butter or veg oil)

25g flour

500ml milk

Melt fat in a pan over a low heat, add flour and whisk to combine.

Cook flour for a min or two. Keep on low heat

Add milk a bit at a time, whisking throughout, until it starts to thicken.

Add more milk, whisk. Repeat the process until all the milk is used up and the sauce is nice and thick.

You can always add a bit more if too

thick but be careful not to make too runny.

You can add some strong flavoured grated cheese to make it a cheese sauce.
